Drone music connoisseurs will be delighted with the announcement that doom metal legends, SUNN O))) will be touring nationally this October, and they’re bringing along post-metal quartet PELICAN for the trip.

Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson (founder of experimental metal label Southern Lord) formed Sunn O))) in 1998, continuing a long-term collaboration and are supported by a varying cast of collaborators. Best known for their synthesis of diverse genres including drone, ambient and black metal, Sunn O))) tap into complex compositional practices without ditching metal’s compelling visual aesthetic and expand the genre, remapping its coordinates with the lowest frequencies imaginable.

An insistent, visceral buzz transforms sludge drifts into chiropractic chords that strike like thunder cracks. Adding to the sensory overload of the Sunn O))) experience, the duo obscures themselves in clouds of thick fog, dressing in hooded robes, periodically thrusting guitars toward the sky.

Complimenting the Sunn O))) experience are none other than thunderous instrumental outfit Pelican. The post metal quartet from Chicago are known for their atmospheric and instrumental stylings, delving into moments of triumphant melodic rock, smokey doom, ambient soundscape, acoustic desert-folk, and minimalist electronics.

They recently released a new four song EP Ataraxia/Taraxis, representing a new chapter in the band’s evolution with a re-energised focus on composition and yielding one of the most diverse efforts in the band’s prolific discography.

Don’t miss two of doom metal’s greats touring together nationally this October. Tickets on sale Monday 9th July, see venues for more details.
