The Rolling Stones Australian tour 2014 has officially been postponed, following the shock passing of frontman Mick Jagger’s longtime girlfriend on Monday.

L’Wren Scott, an American fashion design who has been Mick Jagger’s girlfriend for more than a decade, was found dead in her New York apartment. According to CNN, early reports suggest she took her own life. She was 49.

A spokeswoman for New York City Police Department said: “A 49-year-old female was found this morning at 10.05am at 200 11th Avenue. She was unconscious.”

In a statement posted on The Rolling Stones’ official website overnight, the legendary rock band told fans they are “deeply sorry and disappointed to announce the postponement of the rest of their 14 ON FIRE tour of Australia and New Zealand following the death of L’Wren Scott.”

“Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood wish to thank all of their fans for their support at this difficult time and hope that they will fully understand the reason for this announcement.”

The Rolling Stones are planning to reschedule these postponed shows at a later date, and local promoters Frontier Touring have told ticket holders to hold on to their tickets until further notice. The promoters are currently working on a new schedule of dates and ticket holders will be advised as soon as they are confirmed.

Mick Jagger has also written a heartfelt statement on social media, lamenting the tragic loss of L’Wren Scott.

“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” he wrote. “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.”

“I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her, Mick.”

Jagger, along with his bandmates in The Rolling Stones – Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood – had just landed in Australia for a sold out six-date tour across Australia when news broke on Scott’s passing.
