Following on from last year’s inaugural edition, Australian boutique festival Listen Out has confirmed its return for 2014.

Launched in 2013 as a substitute to retired Parklife festival, organisers Fuzzy have confirmed the list of dates and venues for Listen Out 2014, once again being hosted in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane (sorry Adelaide).

The festival will once again kick off at Sydney’s Centennial Park (on Saturday 27th April) before heading across the country to Perth’s Ozone Reserve, Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens and wrapping up at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Sunday 5th October.

Fuzzy – who also produce Field Day, Shore Thing, and Harbourlife – also promise some improvements for the boutique dance music festival’s sites this year, including “more space [and] new entrance layouts” using the lessons learned from Listen Out 2013. Meanwhile Melbournites will enjoy a “bigger entrance [and] easier bar access” and the Sydney stages have been repositioned for better sound.

Fuzzy has teased a “killer hand-picked lineup” for Listen Out’s comeback this spring…

The full lineup announcement is yet to be announced, but Fuzzy has teased a “killer hand-picked lineup” for Listen Out’s comeback this spring.

Last year’s Listen Out featured UK sibling duo Disclosure, fellow British stars AlunaGeorge, along with TNGHT, Duke Dumont, Classixx, John Talabot, plus local heroes like RÜFÜS and Touch Sensitive across multiple stages.

The festival also brought out Brooklyn rapper Azealia Banks, who caused quite a fuss at the Listen Out debut when she stormed off stage in Sydney only 15 minutes into her set, due to crowd members tossing projectiles on stage. Melbourne didn’t fare much better, with Banks abandoning her set before completing her opening number due to another unruly punter tossing a beer can the MC’s way.

Despite the negative attention, including Police making multiple arrests and seizing $10,000 worth of drugs, Listen Out found great success with the ticketholders.

Our Perth reviewer hailed Listen Out’s debut as “the first jewel in [the festival] season’s crown”, while our Sydney scribe also praised the event for how its “accessibility and focus on redefining how you want to party made for a relaxed and carefree party atmosphere distinctive from other EDM festivals.”
