Local Aussie songsmith D.D Dumbo is certifiably Castlemaine’s biggest musical export, having just landed a major global deal with world-class independent record label 4AD.

4AD will exclusively handle all releases (outside of Australia and New Zealand) for D.D Dumbo, who becomes one of only four Aussie artists to join the influential label (the other acts being The Birthday Party, Rowland S. Howard, and Wolf & Cub).

The deal sees Oliver Hugh Perry, the brains behind the D.D Dumbo alias, joining a roster that includes big-name artists like Bon Iver, The National, St. Vincent, Future Islands, and Tune-Yards – who D.D Dumbo is opening for in her upcoming Splendour In The Grass sideshows.

The news follows just a month on from the Castlemaine producer, and guitar wizard winning the $10,000 Mushroom Music Publishing Grant, with the funds to be used towards the recording of a follow-up to D.D Dumbo’s sole release, the 2013 self-titled EP that contained his breakout single ‘Tropical Oceans‘.

Co-managed by Claire Collins (of Bossy Music) and Laneway promoter Danny Rogers (of Lunatic Entertainment), D.D Dumbo’s mutated blues and warped atmospherics – generated with naught but vocals, 12-string guitar, and loop pedal – has already had him earmarked as ‘one to watch’ in 2014 by international music tastemakers, including NME and BBC, following his appearance at this year’s SXSW 2014.

D.D Dumbo will play his first live shows in the UK this July, opening for fellow countrymen Tame Impala on their tour, playing with 4AD-signed artists Daughter, a debut headline show in London, and wrapping up with a booking at Latitude Festival on 20t July. Full dates and details here.
