Are you one of those lucky ticket holders making their way to the sold out Splendour In The Grass festival? If so, there’s something you should know (and no, it’s not about not being able to use your phone on the grounds) – a band has fallen from the lineup, but don’t worry, another has been added in their place.
With just over a mere week remaining until the horde of music lovers tramp the hallowed grounds of the North Byron Parklands, Nashville alt-country rockers The Wild Feathers have sadly announced they will no longer be travelling to Australia for the winter music festival.
Originally scheduled for a Sunday afternoon set at the GW McLennan Tent, an official statement confirms that “The Wild Feathers have regrettably announced the cancellation of their 2014 Splendour In The Grass appearance and Sydney and Melbourne sideshows due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.”

This is gravely disappointing news for punters who were looking forward to digging the sounds of the five-piece, however their statement offered some consolation; “The Nashville based band have said they will definitely return to Australia in 2015 and are very much looking forward to it.”
Despite such a disheartening puncture, the show must go on, and when one band pulls out from a lineup – another may take its place. For Splendour 2014, the onus falls on Aussie outfit Mt Warning.
No strangers to the big stage, Mt Warning have gained an impressive following over the past 24 months, having toured the US, UK and Europe multiple times on the back of their stunning debut record Midnight Set, charming hearts with their signature cinematic rock wall of sound.
Excitedly taking to their official website to announce the news, the band wrote, “Ummm…. Pretty damn stoked to announce we’ll be playing Splendour in the Grass this year.” And why not? The three-piece join a list of over 100 artists on the bill, including the freshly reformed headliners OutKast, Two Door Cinema Club, Lily Allen, Interpol, Foster The People and Angus & Julia Stone.
It does look like the Splendour 2014 set times will remain the same and although there has been no official update as of yet, Mt Warning will comfortably take to the GW McLennan stage on Sunday 27 July, replacing The Wild Feathers’ 3.30pm slot.
Don’t forget that Splendour In The Grass 2014 has got plenty of extra-musical activities, such as the Splendour In The Craft, featuring Fancy Free (the ‘crafternoon’ side-project of The Grates’ Patience Hogdson) and other festival-billed artists showing how to make “Piñata Boom Boxes, Cool As F#%k Guitar Pick Charm Bracelets, Scissors Paper Rock-n-roll fanzines” and other arty delights.
