Just three days out from its kick-off this weekend, Splendour In The Grass has lost another major international act.

Following on from Two Door Cinema Club cancelling on the Byron Bay festival owing to illness, now London Grammar have pulled out of the three-day event and axed their sold out Splendour In The Grass sideshows this week.

A statement that appeared on the UK trio’s Facebook page overnight reads:

It’s with great sadness that we must announce the cancellation of our trip to Australia & Splendour in the Grass this week due to illness. This is an incredibly sad situation for us as our last visit was one of the most memorable of our careers, but we do not feel that we can currently deliver the level of performance that you all deserve from us.

Our fans in Australia have been hugely supportive of our music since the very beginning, and it pains us to have to disappoint any of you. We are going to do everything we can to make sure we are back down under as soon as possible and will reschedule our Sydney & Melbourne shows and give you more details very shortly.

London Grammar were scheduled to perform at the headline Amphitheatre Stage on the opening Friday night at 7pm, preceding sets from exclusive internationals Interpol and Outkast.

Splendour organisers have already told punters they’re on the case for sorting out a replacement band. “We will have new headline dates for London Grammar and a Splendour replacement confirmed in a few hours. Please sit tight, we’ll update you as soon as we can!” reads a statement on the festival’s official Facebook.

Singer Hannah Reid offered her own personal apology to Aussie fans, explaining in a series of tweets that “vocal exhaustion” had led to their decision to pull out of Splendour and their accompanying headline sideshows, scheduled for Festival Hall in Melbourne tonight and Sydney’s Horden Pavilion this Thursday.

“Dear Aussies. We are so sorry about these cancellations, I haven’t been well these last two weeks I’m struggling with vocal fatigue,” Reid writes.

“Our touring has been an absolute gift to us, but unfortunately my voice can only do much! I want to give you the show you deserve. And we are working out better scheduling, and will come back at the start of next year. Again we are so sorry, we love you dearly with all our hearts.”

London Grammar are the third band to pull out of Splendour In The Grass, following on from headliners Two Door Cinema Club cancelling last week due to frontman Alex Trimble being hospitalised due to a “chronic stomach complaint.” The Irish three-piece have been replaced on the bill by UK indie favourites Foals, who will take Two Door’s headlining set on the Saturday night.

Mt Warning are also new additions to the Splendour bill, replacing the Sunday afternoon set previously occupied by Nashville’s The Wild Feathers who pulled out due to “scheduling conflicts.”
