There’s no arguing that the year 2014 has been a triumphant year for Aussies in music.

We’ve seen a surmountable amount of our artists invade international festival line-ups in the States, the UK and Europe, not to mention the likes of Iggy Azalea and Sia reaching the almighty #1 on US charts, we’ve got plenty of reasons to brag. In joyful addition to this, we discovered that there are in fact six Aussie acts that are in the top 50 streamed tracks right now on Spotify. No surprises, right?

Of course, #1 is resereved for the young queen of country-pop, Taylor Swift, however we’ve got our own secret weapon who isn’t far off the mark. Sia Furler, with her pop-smash ‘Chandelier’ is snapping at Swifty’s heels at #8.

Any Sia loyal from way back will tell you that the fame and adoration this artist is finally receiving is well overduethe Adelaide original has been writing incredible music for herself and the likes of Christina Aguilera for over 15 years now.

With two entries in the top 50, notably at #11 and #39 with ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Fancy’ respectively, is the 24-year old rural New South Wales turn US resident, Iggy Azalea. The MC is the second artist in history to take both #1 and #2 position of the Billboard charts for her tracks ‘Fancy’ and ‘Problem’, which was achieved by none other than The Beatles 50 years ago with ‘I Want To Hold Your hand’ and ‘She Loves You’.

Just squeezing into the top 20 at #19 is Vance Joy with ‘Riptide.’ What’s incredible about this feat is the track has been on the sonic airwaves for well over a year, having already taken #1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2013. The cataclysmic effect of ‘Riptide’ is clearly still rippling throughout the globe.

Joining the global stream top list is Brisbane’s surprise packet Sheppard. With their debut ‘Bombs Away’ doing some serious damage on both Aussie and international charts, not to mention a performance on Ellen in the past 24 hours, we can expect to see ‘Geronimo’ plus many more tracks clock plenty more plays.

Last but not least is the world’s new favourite boy band outfit, 5 Seconds Of Summer. The fresh-faced chaps have earned their keep as the #44 most streamed Spotify tune with ‘Amnesia’, one must never forget the force of the tweens.
