Most of us wait all year for Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 countdown. We gather our friends and family, pump the radio loud, watch the snags cook, and spend most of the day embroiled in heated arguments about who’s going to take number one (apparently, this year there’s a good chance it’ll be pop superstar Taylor Swift) and why or why they don’t deserve it.

But looking at the countdowns of years past, we can’t help but notice something that’s missing from many of the polls. For whatever reason, the ladies often seem to get left behind, with most years’ polls consisting mainly of all-male or male-fronted acts as well as most of the top artists.

To help remedy the situation, we’ve compiled a list of female artists and bands that just would not stop kicking goals in 2014. We’re not saying you should vote for them just because they’re ladies – we’re just giving everyone a quick reminder of some of the women who have kicked ass in 2014, and definitely deserve a spot on your ballot for their work.
