New Zealand rockers Mi-Sex have taken to social media in the hopes of recovering bassist Don Martin’s beloved four-string, which went missing during the second of two sold-out shows at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre over the weekend.

The band were performing at the Palais in St Kilda on Saturday as part of Pure Gold Live, alongside GANGgajang, Rose Tattoo, Pseudo Echo, The Chantoozies, and Dragon, when the antipodean new wave favourites last saw the missing bass guitar.

“This bass was last seen in a band room at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda Melbourne last night,” the band wrote on Facebook yesterday. “Any Information regarding it’s whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. It belongs to Don Martin from Mi-Sex.

“You can contact us via Mi-Sex Facebook page or reply to this email,” the band continued.” It’s not really worth anything to anyone as it is such a distinctive piece and will eventually be found.”

“We trust that the good spirit in us all, will help return this instrument to it’s rightful owner sooner rather than later. Please pass this email onto any one and everyone you feel may help in our search, Facebook, Twitter etc.”

Mi-Sex are best known for their singles ‘Computer Games’ in 1979 and ‘People’ in 1980, as well as the controversy they stirred after NZ Prime Minister Rob Muldoon instituted a tax on records in 1980. Readers can check out the band’s original post below, along with a photo of the missing bass.

Mi-Sex are next set to perform on Saturday, 30th May as part of Solid Gold Live at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, alongside Ross Wilson, Pseudo Echo, John Paul Young, Pseudo Echo, Allniters, GANGajang, Swanee, and more.
