Those of us lucky enough to be alive in the ’90s have a special place in our hearts for Smash Mouth. Just what that place is and who’s keeping Smash Mouth company is different for each of us.

For some of us they were a guilty pleasure, others didn’t know any better and openly loved them, while some regard them the same way Hunter S. Thompson did disco, likening it to a particularly nasty STD.

Regardless, in the ’90s it was hard to get away from Smash Mouth. They were a staple of popcorn flick soundtracks and singles like ‘All Star’ and ‘Walkin’ on the Sun’ managed to cross over into considerable chart success.

Then, they sort of just went away. According to Wikipedia, they kept releasing albums after 1999’s Astro Lounge, which you can now find at a Cash Converters near you, but we’re not so sure.

But lo and behold, the members of Smash Mouth are not only alive and well, they’re still together and gigging. They even recently hit up the Taste Of Fort Collins, a food festival in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The reason we know this is because the band are now making headlines following frontman Steve Harwell’s onstage breakdown during their set at Taste Of Fort Collins. See, Harwell doesn’t take too kindly to being pelted with bread.

According to Stereogum, someone at Taste Of Fort Collins thought it would be a good idea to hand out free loaves of bread to the drunken revellers in attendance. When Smash Mouth took the stage, the inevitable happened.

Harwell promptly lost his shit and started going off at the crowd, so much so a security guard was forced to restrain him. He eventually finished the performance of ‘All Star’ but left stage before the band’s encore.

“You throw one more piece of shit on fuckin’ stage, I’m gonna come find your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, whoever the fuck you are out there. You wanna be a badass? Come up here. Come on. Come be a badass up here,” an angry Harwell can be seen yelling in the clip below.

We think Harwell was pretty much in the right and anyone throwing bread that day is an A-grade dickhead. Still, much as we side with Harwell, we’ve gotta admit footage of the incident is absurdly funny. Witness the glory below.
