It’s been about a minute since homegrown singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett enchanted us all, so it’s just as well pedestrians around the world are currently scratching their hands at the sight of the new guerrilla marketing campaign in support of her new single.

As some readers will recall, last week Barnett got her day started by announcing her appearance as part of the forthcoming Melbourne Festival‘s Patti Smith tribute and unveiled a new music video teaser.

The ‘Depreston’ songwriter shared a cryptic piece of footage via her official Facebook page, apparently a snippet from her upcoming music video for the track ‘Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party’ off her lauded debut album.

As readers can see below, the cinematic-looking clip sees Barnett lazing in bed, with some close-ups on the various items in her room, including some randomly placed bananas and a copy of The New Yorker, before she’s woken up by her own song.

In order to promote the single, Barnett has apparently papered cities around the world with posters and billboards bearing the song’s fairly obtuse title written in the same handwriting that marks her debut, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.

Apparently not everyone’s as hip to talented Australian-bred indie singer-songwriters as Tone Deaf readers are and the campaign is eliciting a few scratched heads, with social media currently awash in pics of confused passers-by and hashtags like #randomness.
