Soundwave Festival 2016 is just a few months away from launch date and as yet, that increasingly elusive lineup still hasn’t been announced and fans are getting seriously antsy with anticipation.

After experiencing several delays, reports indicated that the full Soundwave 2016 lineup announcement would finally arrive today (Thursday, 15th October), but it now looks as though that isn’t going to happen.

As FasterLouder notes, whilst the festival’s official Twitter account confirmed a 15th October announce date to triple j’s Linda Marigliano, they later deleted the news, with the broadcaster tweeting a correction.

Soundwave’s Twitter reportedly explained this morning that the tweet to Marigliano was “done hastily out of panic to shut Linda down” and was never intended as an official confirmation of the date for the lineup announcement.

Still, the news spread like wildfire and many fans are still awaiting a lineup announcement some time today, with festival founder AJ Maddah fielding non-stop tweets from fans still wondering where the Soundwave 2016 bill is.

According to Maddah, 15th October is “not our date but pretty close” and that the controversial date may have been ‘leaked’ “just to spite a certain website”.

Responding to one curious fan, Maddah wrote, “It is not tomorrow Stephen. We have not released a date for announcement. But it is days rather than weeks away.”

Meanwhile, the official Soundwave Twitter account has confirmed “there is no announcement today”, but insisting the date is “very close”. “Art is being finalised,” the tweet continued, “website approaching completion.”

So when can we expect the Soundwave 2016 lineup? It’s anybody’s guess, with the official line from promoters being only that it is “days” away. Stay tuned to Tone Deaf and we’ll have the full lineup as soon as it’s announced.

Having experimented with a two-day format for their last instalment, Soundwave Festival 2016 will see Australia’s premier hard rock and heavy metal event return to the single-day format, hitting up venues in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
