The nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards have been unveiled and it’s simply more proof that the international music scene cannot get enough of our Australian homegrown artists at the moment.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett has managed to pick up a nomination for Best New Artist following the success of her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit.
Meanwhile, Perth outfit Tame Impala’s third album has picked up a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The band’s previous record, Lonerism, was nominated in the same category back in 2014.
Melbourne soul outfit Hiatus Kaiyote have nabbed their second Grammy nomination, with their single ‘Breathing Underwater’ receiving a nod in the Best R&B Performance category. They were previously nominated in 2014.
Australia’s foremost country star, Keith Urban, is also in the running for a shiny gramophone statuette. He’s up against the likes of Carrie Underwood and Chris Stapleton in the Best Country Solo Performance category.
Looking at the rest of the list (which you can check out in full below), Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar has absolutely swept this year’s nominations, picking up 11 nods, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album.
The rapper’s latest full-length, To Pimp A Butterfly, has received widespread acclaim and has also seen Lamar pick up nominations for Song of The Year, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song.
