The music world gave a collective “…really!?” last week when it was reported that pop superstar Rihanna’s new album, ANTi, featured a cover of a Tame Impala song.

The cover of Currents track ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’, which had been retitled ‘Same Ol’ Mistakes’, raised some eyebrows, with many surprised RiRi had even heard of the Perth band.

However, not only are Kevin Parker and co on board, they’ve given it their personal thumbs up, with a statement from their management company recounting how the whole thing came about.

“The Roc Nation [Rihanna’s management] team got in touch with us here at Spinning Top letting us know that Rihanna loved the Tame Impala track ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’,” Spinning Top Management told NME.

“They asked if she could cover the song for her new record. Kevin was more than happy to send it her way. We’re all really happy with how the song turned out, love it!”
