Following on from their top 15 placement in the latest triple j Hottest 100, Violent Soho have now unleashed the fiery second taste of their highly anticipated new album, Waco, which is set to drop on 18th March via I OH YOU.
The new single is titled ‘Viceroy’ and was finished during the band’s last pre-production session for the forthcoming album. A raucous suburban anthem, it has all the hallmarks of classic Soho, from Luke Henry’s chugging bass to Luke Boerdam’s snarling vocals.
Having spent the last eight months recording and mixing Waco at The Shed studios in Brisbane with producer Bryce Moorhead, it’s fair to say Mansfield’s favourite sons have been putting in the hard yards to make sure their next album is a cracker.
Waco follows on from the breakout success of 2013’s Hungry Ghost, which saw the band ascend to previously untapped heights, achieving gold sales and peaking at Number 6 on the ARIA Album Chart, propelled by singles like ‘Covered In Chrome’ and ‘Saramona Said’.
The band’s fourth album, Waco is available for pre-order now and was named after the small Texas city that served as the backdrop for the Brand-Davidians’ infamous shootout with and subsequent massacre by the FBI in 1993.
According to Boerdam, Waco is like Hungry Ghost’s “older sister: Hungry Ghost dealt with the spiritual skeleton we’ve become from this spoon-fed reality. Waco is more about control and illusion: what the skeleton is being fed”.
