The 2000s really weren’t that far away, but still, they are home to so many songs that just hit our nostalgia bones.

No matter what your favourite classic from this time period is, we can all agree that the following songs definitely deserve a spot as nostalgia-inducing 2000s bops.

1. ‘Mr. Brightside’ – The Killers (2004)

We’re all out of our cages now, and look at us, we’re doing just fine. One of the more upbeat songs on this list, this song is now a staple at many a karaoke bar, and was basically the soundtrack for many millennials growing up in the 2000s.

2. ‘Push the Button’ – The Sugababes (2005)

Where were you when The Sugababes threatened to take over the music industry with their near-perfect girl group. We really do miss them, but this song will forever be in our hearts.

3. ‘Viva La Vida’ – Coldplay – 2008

Remember when Coldplay were kinda cool and not just kings of the sellout brigade? It makes sense that songs with strong string leads can create emotional and nostalgic memories. The second the song starts you get instantly teleported to the troubling times of the 2000s. Tamagotchis and all.

4. ‘Sk8er Boi’ – Avril Lavigne (2002)

He was a boy. She was a girl. Can I make it anymore obvious?

5. ‘How to Save a Life’ – The Fray (2005)

From the simple and solemn piano with those vocals that pull the tears right out of your eyes, this is one of those songs that sticks in the back of your mind and only comes back to remind you what sadness really is. Don’t mind me, I’ll just be crying my eyes out to this.

6. ‘Hey There Delilah’ – Plain White T’s (2005)

Delilah is somewhere out there hating this song, but for all of us, we can enjoy the memories we’ve made to it.

7. ‘Pure Shores’ – All Saints (2000)

The year was 2000. The new Millenium had begun. The Vengaboys had ushered out 1999 with their smash hit ‘We Like to Party’. The game had just refreshed, ready for anyone to come and take the prime spot. What does this have to do with ‘Pure Shores’? Not much, but god damn if it isn’t the most perfectly tranquil pop song from the early 2000s.
