Before embarking on another extensive European tour, Melbourne deep folk duo Roller One will be launching their new double A-side My Friend, Complication/Someone Like You in Melbourne and Sydney this September.

After releasing their debut album Motorsports, touring overseas, supporting the likes of Okkervill River and playing Melbourne Festival in 2011, Roller One recently bunkered down to record their follow-up, due early 2012. The double A-side is a taste of what’s to come. With pedal steel, Viola and Amanda Roff singing with Fergus on Someone Like You, It’s a fuller sound than the acclaimed debut’s sparse country rhythms.

The Acoustic Duo, guitar and double bass are constantly looking for new ways to interpret the songs of singer Fergus McAlpin. Fergus’ songwriting continues the traditions of folk and country with Beat Magazine describing the songwriting as “somewhere between Townes Van Zandt and M Ward” and calling Motorsports a “delicate, dreamy album that leans right in and whispers straight into your ears”.
