Hey we are Elliot The Bull. We are a four piece from the Central Coast of NSW and we have recently released our self-titled EP (which you can read the review of here), produced by Lachlan Mitchell, long-time producer of The Jezabels. The EP has been described as “easily blending folk, rock, and indie-pop influences to create a sound unbound by one specific genre and uniquely Elliot The Bull.”

We have recently come back from a nine show tour all across China as well as touring our single ‘Paint The Sky’ earlier in June/July. We are back on the road this Spring to promote the new EP and will be playing shows up and down the East Coast of Australia. We hope to see you all at a show soon!

What are your main methods of songwriting? Is it a group effort or is there a primary songwriter?

Generally one person will come to practice with a simple idea, which we all then expand upon and hopefully turn into a song. This can take anywhere from one jam to a couple of weeks before we are all happy. That said, we don’t focus on just one song at a time until it is perfect but rather constantly fine tune a whole bunch of them until we record the final versions.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What has been the best local show you’ve been to?

There was this one band from Sydney called Zeahorse, we saw them a few times locally and they always put on a killer show. Haven’t heard much from them in a while, hopefully they are still kicking it!

Do all members in your band have very similar music tastes, or is it widespread?

Yes, except for our drummer. He has a weird fascination with eastern European pop and is still very much into nu-metal!

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

We normally eat really big meals before we play which generally doesn’t work in our favour. But for our EP launch, we had a real life bull skull on stage with us as a prop and it ended up being a really good show! So maybe that could be our lucky charm from now on?

When you’re Rolling Stones Big, what are you going to request on your rider: don’t be shy. We want specifics!

I imagine that by then we would already have most things that we want… more stuff would just be annoying. However, some palm trees and a Hawaiian cocktail bar side of stage would be nice!

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which artist or producer (alive or dead) would you love to record a song with?

Maybe Brian Eno. What he did with Coldplay’s sound was magical, some of his methods seem really cool and lets face it, everything he touches turns to gold!

What has been the height of your musical career?

We’ve recently returned from touring all over China. For part of it we did a couple of festival shows, which had us playing in front of a few thousand each show! It was very overwhelming and probably the best experience of our lives so far.

Who do you think is way overdue for an Australian festival headline spot?

Well the obvious one is Radiohead since they get rumoured for pretty much every festival, every year. But since they are now coming in November I would have to say Arcade Fire. They’ve only been here once for 2008 Big Day Out and since then have blown up massively but skipped out on Australia for all their ‘world’ tours. Long overdue!
