New local, new from the UK and a oldie but goodie live track from the US, brings us to our weekend mixtape featuring Adelaide psychedelic rockers Lady Strangelove and their new single ‘Demon’, followed on by new tracks from UK’s Everything Everything and a band with possibly the best band name ever Melt Yourself Down, a debut single from Brisbane trio Avaberée, a track of the new City Calm Down ep and lets not forget the oldie but goodie from Dinosaur Jr. with a live track from 1987!

Lady Strangelove – Demon

Following the release of their most recent EP entitled Demon, Lady Strangelove have released their first single of the same name. The four piece psychedelic Adelaide based band show promise with their newest funkedelic release expressing wide influence and an original result. Beginning with a warped organ introduction the band set the bar high with a soul filled yet relatable song form that sees you begging for more. Intertwining itself with fuzzed out guitars and tripped out modulation Demon sets the band aside from many psychedelic bands before them and expresses the band interesting diversity and outgoing expression. Produced by Californian producer Tom Baker (Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails) the bands five track EP is something to look out for with Australian psychedelic proving itself more than ever.

Everything Everything – Cough Cough

umm/yeah/so?/waitasecond” If the cut-and-paste intro of the vibrant ‘Cough Cough’ is your first introduction to the effortlessly creative UK act, then say hello to your new favourite band. Following on from their sublime debut album, 2010’s Man Alive, the lead single from its follow-up, next year’s Arc, demonstrates they’re still a band bursting with ideas. Forging together barreling rhythmic textures, unique sonic tics, genuine grooves, smart lyrics, and distinctive vocal turns with ease. Everything Everything indeed!

Avaberée – Lover of Mine

‘Lover Of Mine’ is the first delightful single for Brisbane vocal trio Avaberée taken from their forthcoming EP which has been produced by Matthew Redlich (Ball Park Music, Emma Louise). ‘Lover Of Mine’ is a harmonious marriage of all three stunning vocal deliveries from Genevieve, Aimee and Irena, woven with sweet lyrics and sweeping breezy melodies with the warm of perfect spring day. This track is definitely a lover of mine!

Melt Yourself Down – We Are Enough

It isn’t often you meet a track that can physically make you want to drop everything you’re doing to get up and dance. Enter ‘Melt Yourself Down’, the first track from the newly formed group We Are Enough. The lineup reads like a veritable who’s who of the early 2000s with members of Polar Bear and Zero 7 leading the pack. In saying that, the sound is entirely current and in fact extremely different from most members’ respective musical pasts. Heavy on horns with a kicking, percussive drumbeat and lively handclaps, this isn’t one  to listen to in  a sullen mood.

Dinosaur Jr. – Lung (Live 1987)

Dinosaur Jr.’s breakthrough album You’re Living All Over Me turns 25 later this year and to celebrate this major anniversary of an even more major album, the band are releasing a live version of all tracks on new release Chocomel Daze with all cuts being taken from a gig they performed in the Netherlands. The gig, which took place in 1987 featured the original Dinosaur Jr. lineup is a real testament to their live skills. Out of Golden Plains next year, these live tracks should tide fans over until their impending arrival.

City Calm Down – Burn Slow

Taken from their upcoming EP Movements due for release early next month, the Melbourne-based four-piece have mastered the art of combining electronic melodies with timeless sounds as evidenced in ‘Burn Slow’ where a super bassy sound and beautiful solo trumpet compliments the electronica perfectly.  Lead singer Jack Bourke has a striking, deep voice which, when juxtaposed with their dancey beats and heavy basslines, manages to shine. Be sure to check out City Calm Down’s up and coming EP Movements  out November 2nd.
