French beat-maker and globetrotting producer Onra is returning to Australia for the first time since his live debut Down Under in 2011, with a series of headline dates around the country this July.

Onra, aka Parisian Arnaud Bernard, first captured attention with his 2010 album Long Distance, extending his stylistic development and instrumental blend on the Deep In The Night EP for A-Trak’s Fools Gold label, delivering a tasty mix of instrumental hip hop of 70s funk grooves, 80s soul, and boogie-fied flavours – all filtered through his unique samples and crunching beats.

He’s also famed for his Cinoiseries, a love letter to both classic hip hip as well as his own Vietnamese roots. 2011’s Cinoiseries 2, released through All City Records, was widely regarded as a stunning aural document of the genre’s history and influential sonic imprints, both culturally and sonically.

Onra’s most recent project is partnering with regular co-conspirator Boddhi Satva, for the Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo project, satisfying his diverse influences and tastes in spiritual jazz, in the vein of Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra.

Live, Onra’s show combines his many musical interests with an impressive technical mastery, wrangling hardware and gear towards an ear-tickling mix of surprises, eschewing the trend of heads-down and very much performance-less laptops for a more engaging show that lives up to its ‘live’ reputation.

Onra’s Australian Tour also gifts Howler, Melbourne’s newest, coolest venue, with one of its first ever shows at its new 400-capacity bandroom/arts hub. The Parisian beatmaker then plays dates in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane.

Don’t miss Onra as he comes back through Australia, warming up winter and busting heads from coast to coast.
