Kasabian front man Tom Meighan has been having a bit of a whinge to the NME, saying that: “There’s no bands in the Top 40 these days, is there? Singles and albums chart – no bands, man. I think the internet’s took the shine off rock ‘n’ roll. Everything’s splintered now.”

A very admirable sook really, except that Kasabian were one of the last bands to get a big record deal in the UK, and songwriters, producers and the kitchen sink were thrown at them to make their generic T-Rex sub-glam stomp work in the charts and on radio. Somewhat amusingly, he’s given big props to one of the last bands to get a decent record deal in Australia, Modular’s Tame Impala. They too, being another band offering a retro stomp, this time heavily influenced by Cream and fuzztone guitar pedals. Still it’s nice to see the Perth boys getting the thumbs up from one of the biggest bands in the UK. He told the current NME, which comes out today in the UK: ‘Tame Impala are a band that deserve a chance. When we got signed it’s like we jumped on the last boat out of Armageddon.’
