Just a few months ago Apple announced that they were discontinuing the iPod Classic, which as we reported mere days ago, has seen the mass-storage mp3 player explode in value, with many paying unbelievable amounts of spondula only to discover they’ve purchased a broken product.
We aren’t kidding, insane price listings include a little over-zealous seller who has attempted to sell a classic for a price of $180,000 (don’t worry, nobody has snapped that one up), whilst taking a glimpse at the Aussie market place, many are attempting to sell their “perfect quality, still packaged iPods” from $350 – $1500, where in the UK as The Guardian reports, consumers are purchasing the apple product for amounts of $1200.
It would appear that people’s frantic scramble to get their hands on the last of the music playing devices has seen some logic fly out the window, with many having purchased iPods that are smashed-in, or completely don’t work.
Online reseller website Amazon has been flooded with complaints that Classic iPods bought from their website were complete rip-offs, one disgruntled customer writing “Rubbish company advertised as grade B – it was scratched, dented and screen had lines through it. It was only fit for the bin.”
Adding to this absurd news, a report according to Mashable (note: take with a grain of salt) limited edition U2 iPod Classic has allegedly sold for a staggering $90,000 on eBay. The special iPod is said to be a factory-sealed UK model with engraved autographs of all four U2 members, originally sold in 2004.
With Christmas fast approaching we all tend to lose our heads a little in crazy attempts to find that perfect gift in time, however maybe think twice before buying an exorbitantly priced secondhand iPod Classic online, it’s probably very well past its used-by date.
