Remember when a local Melbourne band caused plenty of controversy but also scored a whole lotta love when they wrote a song trashing our current Prime Minister, Tony Abbott? Well it appears they aren’t the only pissed off group of musos that do not dig the Liberal politician’s leading ways.

Introducing the new political punk rock group Until Abbott Gets Gone.

Hailing from Sydney, the band comprises of Crooked Fiddle Band members Joe Gould and Gordon Wallace who have come together to write songs against the Tony Abbott government, and will disband as soon as he is out of office.

“We can’t wait to break up,” says drummer and vocalist Joe Gould. “We formed this band to express our frustration at the direction of our government. The inhumane asylum seeker policies, the sheer disrespect towards climate science, it’s safe to say we’re not happy.”

Their first anti-Abbott anthem is ‘Climate Septic’, a burning, post-hardcore call-to-arms track that booms the warning words, “under the weather /heard your excuses/said right to our faces/we’ve got your/your number” before booming to the climactic closer, “let’s burn it all down, raise the planet to the ground”.

“This is an issue-by-issue band,” says guitarist Gordon Wallace. “When Abbott leaves, we’ll break it up. No more releases at all. Our final show will be a celebration, and that’s it.”

Until Abbott Gets Gone are a non-for-profit band, donating everything they earn to Greenpeace and the Climate Council, “we don’t expect to be making as much money as your average mining magnate, but our music is available pay-what-you-want and any cash that comes in will be donated straight to charity.”

If you’re picking up what these guys are putting down, jump over to their official Facebook and tune into their bandcamp for further releases.
