Nobody could forget the epic Beat The Drum gig the guys at Triple J threw earlier this year in celebration of their 40th birthday, but who knew this shindig would come at the price of another one of their festivals.
As a statement posted on Triple J’s website informs, the treasured regional outing One Night Stand will not take place in 2015 as the alternative radio station wanted to focus on the aforementioned Beat The Drum.
Part of the statement reads, “Due to the big focus on triple j’s 40th anniversary celebrations this year, including the massive Beat The Drum concert last month, triple j’s One Night Stand is taking a year off in 2015.”
Before promising that they’re still dedicated to spreading music across regional Australia, “we still be travelling to music festivals all over the country, including regional areas, to bring you live music and music news, as well as get up close and personal with you guys at triple j parties and special events around Australia”.
This is terribly disappointing news, the event having taken place since 2004 giving much needed support and live music to areas across the nation that frequently miss out on such opportunities including Dubbo, Dalby, Tumby Bay, Alice Springs, Gippsland, Collie, Cowra, Port Pirie, Ayr, and Natimuk.
Just last year the road show visited northern Victoria town Mildura which saw the likes of Illy, Dan Sultan, The Jungle Giants, Violent Soho and RÜFÜS perform to a sea of adoring fans.
In addition to this sad news, Triply J have not confirmed whether or not One Night Stand will return in 2016, however, there is hope, the radio station still encouraging any town hoping to host the event to apply online.
