UK songstress Laura Marling has teamed up with White Stripes front man Jack White to release a cover of Neil Young’s classic 1972 lament to a friend’s heroin addiction, ‘Needle and the Damage Done’. Released on White’s own Third Man Records, the 7” is limited to 1500 copies and only available from the label’s website and Rough Trade Records. The song is backed by another cover, Jackson C Frank’s 1965 single ‘Blues Run The Game’, and both were recorded in less than half an hour.
Marling told the NME earlier this year, “I went and recorded with Jack when I was passing through Nashville on our recent US tour. The whole process took about 25 minutes, two songs bashed out and recorded and done, it was wonderful. The care that’s gone into crafting the studio is amazing. It goes without saying that Jack is a very important figure in modern music, and it was very exciting to work with him.”
