Nick Allbrook is a veritable Australian music renaissance man. You can see him out and about as the frontman for Pond, drumming for the likes of Peter Bibby, or performing with Mink Mussel Creek and Allbrook/Avery.
Or perhaps you’re more familiar with his work in that “real big band” that he “helped out”, otherwise known as Tame Impala. Regardless of where you’ve seen him, you know he’s one of Aussie music’s greatest characters.
That’s why we were so excited when we heard that he would be entering the studios of our good friends at FBi to share some music, ranging from contemporary classical and disco to hip-hop from Earl Sweatshirt.
“[These days I’m] scratching my tummy, drawing, and making little kiddy books with Amber Fresh,” Allbrook explains in the interview, which also touches on his record collection, hanging out with Mark Ronson, and his own extensive discography.
You can hear the full interview here, but be prepared for some trippy tales: “[Sonic Boom] took me to a record store in France then showed me these guys, then did some other eccentric things like sparking up a joint in the middle of the record shop.”
