Brisbane’s Lokett has been hard at work crafting some exceptional new music. Now, we’ve received another taster of her brilliance, with the video for ‘Look Up’ arriving today.

If you’ve been keeping your eye on all the right places, then you might’ve come across Brisbane’s Lokett when she made the move from working behind the scenes to being front and centre last year.

Arriving with debut single ‘Don’t Run’, this genre-bending artist provided a kaleidoscopic collection of sounds, ranging from the likes of hip-hop, soul, and indie-pop in the span of just a few short minutes.

Since then, her profile has only continued to rise, with her latest track, ‘Look Up’, arriving this week.

A hazy slice of R&B that showcases Lokett’s inimitable skills, ‘Look Up’ was produced by the artist herself and co-producer Tomtom in her native Brisbane. Written about fighting negative energy and thoughts, the smooth tune focuses on the idea of manifesting change.

“This song was made to fight back any negative thoughts or feelings about being held back and dealing with unwanted change,” Lokett explains. “Originally, this was a personal anthem [now] made into one for others to relate to and feel more empowered about change. ‘Look Up’ is giving a new perspective on how to address [that] change.”

Ahead of the song’s release, Lokett has now paired ‘Look Up’ with a slick music video. Working with Kevin Bar (Moonboy Entertainment) and filmed in the streets of Osaka, Kyoto, Shinjuku and Azabu-juban in Japan, these isolating locations helped to provide an extra level of emotional intensity along the way.

“We shot the film clip while on holiday adventuring through Japan,” Lokett notes. “Nearly everyday at some point, we would film part of the clip, run up many different buildings to find filmable roof tops and scout lots of different locations through each town and city we were in.”

Undoubtedly one of the finest examples of R&B you’ll hear for a long time, ‘Look Up’ serves as just another mesmerising chapter in the career of an already-exceptional artist. Check out the video for ‘Look Up’ ahead of its offical release on Thursday.
