Adam Sandler has picked up his guitar once again, dropping an emotional tribute to late friend and comedian Chris Farley.

When you think of the words “emotional”, “touching”, and “poignant”, very rarely does the name Adam Sandler come to mind.

However, while the comic might be known for his (mostly) hilarious film roles and classic impersonations, he has also managed to pull on our heartstrings a bit, showing off his softer side in films like Reign Over Me and even Funny People to an extent.

However, years before Adam Sandler became known as an iconic movie star, he got his start on the famed Saturday Night Live, where he rose to fame as one of the show’s best-known cast members, alongside the likes of David Spade, Chris Rock, and Chris Farley.

On Saturday night, Adam Sandler made his first return to the Saturday Night Live set since 1995, performing in a number of well-received sketches.

However, it was the ending of the show that happened to receive the most acclaim, with Sandler closing out the night with a tribute to late friend Chris Farley.

Picking up his guitar once again, Adam Sandler performed a solo tribute to Chris Farley, the late comic who died of a drug overdose back in 1997.

While Sandler had performed this track live in the past, he used this opportunity to make reference to some of Farley’s most iconic sketches, backing them with footage of those classic moments.

From serving as a Chippendales dancer with Patrick Swayze, impersonating Meat Loaf, his appearance as the Lunch Lady, and his legendary spot at Matt Foley (who lives in a van down by the river, if you didn’t know), all of Farley’s most famous moments were mentioned, with Sandler even appearing close to tears at numerous times.

Undoubtedly a far cry from his days singing ‘The Chanukah Song‘ or appearing as The Herlihy Boy, the tune finished up with Sandler wishing his friend was still here with him, asking the audience to “give it up for the great Chris Farley” as deafening applause rang out through the studio.
