Just one month out from the release of Avicii’s posthumous studio album, fans have been given the first taste with the new single ‘SOS’.

In April of 2018, the world of music was undoubtedly rocked to learn of the death of Swedish producer Tim Bergling, known professionally as Avicii.

With both of his studio albums topping the charts in his home country, Avicii released a number of classic tracks that quickly saw him considered one of the greatest producers of his era.

While his tragic passing cut his career short, fans were ecstatic to learn last week that a new album from the musician was set to be released next month, with Tim scheduled for release on June 6th.

According to those involved with the record, most of the songs were “75 to 80 percent done” at the time of Avicii’s passing. As manager Christopher Thordson explained, “He wrote very specific things about the music,” allowing producers to use these detailed notes to help complete the songs that will appear on the new album.

Now, the album’s first single has arrived, with ‘SOS’ dropping today.

Featuring Aloe Blacc on vocals, ‘SOS’ sees the American singer appearing on an Avicii track for the first time since 2013’s ‘Wake Me Up’. Backed by a video of fan memories, the tune also features an interpolation of TLC’s iconic ‘No Scrubs’, helping the track tap into the nostalgia of fans along the way.

As Pitchfork notes, all the proceeds from Avicii’s posthumous Tim album will go towards the new nonprofit organisation his family recently founded.

As reported last month, the Tim Bergling Foundation will officially launch on April 20th, and is set to raise both money and awareness for a number of causes, including issues related to mental illness and suicide prevention.

“Tim wanted to make a difference,” the musician’s family explained in a statement. “Starting a foundation in his name is our way to honour his memory and continue to act in his spirit.”

Tim is set for release on June 6th, and will feature collaborations from the likes of Carl Falk, Albin Nedler, Kristoffer Fogelmark, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
