Last week, Bandcamp revealed that on the May 1st, June 5th, and July 3rd (the first Friday of each month) they would waive their revenue share on all sales from midnight to midnight PDT as a way to “put much needed money directly into artists’ pockets” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Bandcamp first waived its revenue share on March 20th, which saw the biggest sales day in Bandcamp history — with music fans spending $4.3 million on music and merch — 15 x the amount of a normal Friday sales day. On May 1st, they did it again, and fans forked out a whopping $7.1 million.

The company will host two more sale days on June 5th and July 3rd, so start saving your pennies in anticipation for supporting your favourite artists, and securing yourself some delicious merchandise.

“Musicians will continue to feel the effects of lost touring income for many months to come, so we’re also sharing some ideas below on how fans can support the artists they love and how artists can give fans new, creative ways to provide support,” the company shared in a blog post.

“It may sound simple, but the best way to help artists is with your direct financial support, and we hope you’ll join us through the coming months as we work to support artists in this challenging time.”

We’re weeks into social distancing now, and I’m sure we’ve all recognised how mind-numbingly dull the whole shebang would have been without music and the arts. This is a really fantastic initiative, and if you have the means, we strongly encourage you to take part in it. Head to Bandcamp’s website for more information.
