Bombay Bicycle Club have just announced that they are working on their first new record in five years. After the announcement that they were returning from their four-year hiatus earlier this year.

As NME notes, the band have taken to socials to share that they are back in the studio cooking up a brand new record. A photo shared on the band’s Instagram stories featured guitarist Jamie MacColl, drummer Suren de Saram and Bassist Ed Nash getting back into the swing of things.

This forthcoming record will be the band’s first since 2014’s So Long, See You Tomorrow. Since the band announced their return to music, they have been confirmed as the headliners for Wilderness Festival. They have also announced that they will perform their first headline show at Brooklyn Steel in New York on October 7th.

A statement released upon the bands announcement that they would be returning to music read:

“Since late last year we’ve been getting back into the swing of playing music together. We were initially a little rusty but also nostalgic playing songs that have been around since we were teenagers. More than anything it just felt great to be in the same room playing again. It made us realise what a good thing we have and has given us renewed energy and enthusiasm for the future.”

“The joy we were getting out of playing the old songs seemed to naturally lead us onto working on new material, so we’re becoming immersed in that as we speak. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we have something new for you guys to hear.

We’re also planning some shows for later this year and beyond. We’ll have news on that front over the coming months.”

There’s been no word yet as to when we can expect Bombay Bicycle Club to return to Australian shores. The last time the London four-piece toured the country was back in 2014.
