This is well and truly the golden era of music biopics. Following the enormous success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, a film about Culture Club frontman Boy George is in the works; and George thinks Sophie Turner should portray him.
The as-yet-untitled project was confirmed back in May. The biopic is set to be directed by Sacha Gervasi (My Dinner, Hitchcock), who will pen the film’s script.
Boy George detailed the project in a recent interview with Fitzy and Wippa yesterday morning. George shared that there were “some really interesting suggestions” over who should play him in the film including a suggestion that he should be portrayed by Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.
“It’s really strange but that’s been a suggestion — I think that will upset people, which I really like,” Boy George shared “‘Oh she can’t play you, she’s a woman…but when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her.”
George and Sophie Turner already have a connection; George and Turner’s husband Joe Jonas features as celebrity judges on The Voice Australia.
Turner has expressed her enthusiasm about playing George in a recent tweet:

Details about the forthcoming film have been kept under wraps. We’re all very curious as to whether the film plans to address Boy George’s 2009 conviction for falsely imprisoning and beating a male escort. George received 15 months in jail for the time, with Judge David Radford telling the disgraced singer that his “premeditated, callous and humiliating” act left his victim “shocked, degraded and traumatised,” and “deprived of his liberty and his human dignity”.
