Cut Copy’s fantastic new album Zonoscope leaked several weeks ago. Some people are a bit suspicious of the leak, suggesting that because the mp3s were at such a high bit rate that it could have only come from the band themselves. The band have shrugged off such suggestions, and even say they’re not that fussed about the leak. The band’s Tim Hoey says “I guess it’s a bit of the nature of the beast, it’s really out of our hands, especially once you finish the record; it’s kind of sitting around on people’s desks for months on end. In a way, it kind of felt like we dodged a bullet. It could have leaked three months out.”
That’s not to say that their record label was too happy about it, but Hoey remains philosophical. “I think it was kind of an impossible task. Kind of like that carnival game — I think it’s called Whack a Mole — where you have to hit all the little moles” he says. “It’s flattering in some ways that there seems to be some anticipation for this record. It’s great that people are really excited by it.”
The band are streaming their epic new single ‘Need You Now’ on Soundcloud. Check out the amazing tune here: http://soundcloud.com/cutcopymusic/cut-copy-need-you-now-1
