Dave Grohl has once again sung the praises of Billie Eilish, this time comparing the young musician to the likes of Morrissey.

Back in February, the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl took part in an interview with Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino. During this interview, the pair discussed a number of topics, including who he feels is leading the charge for rock music today.

Initially, “lazy paraphrasing” saw Dave Grohl’s original comments liken Billie Eilish’s music to that of Nirvana’s, though Grohl later released a transcript of his quotes in order to clarify his phrasing.

“My daughters are obsessed with Billie Eilish,” Grohl explained in February. “And what I’m seeing happening with my daughters is the same thing that happened to me at their age.”

“My daughters are listening to Billie Eilish and they’re becoming themselves through her music. She totally connects to them. So we went to go see her play at the Wiltren, and that connection that she has with her audience is the same thing that was happening with Nirvana in 1991. The people in the audience know every word.”

Since then, Eilish has responded with shock to Grohl’s comments, but now, the Foo Fighters frontman has opened up about the pop icon once again, this time in a conversation with Josh Homme.

Speaking to the Queens Of The Stone Age leader on his Beats 1 show, The Alligator Hour (via Stereogum), Dave Grohl explained how his daughter Violet exposed him to Billie Eilish, kicking off a chain reaction that soon saw her become one of his favourite artists.

She gave me a copy of this Billie Eilish song called ‘idontwannabeyouanymore’,” Grohl began, “and I listened to it and the song is so beautiful. It’s heavy. The lyrics are dark and it’s super heavy. Beautiful.”

“I said, “Who is this?” And she said, ‘Billie Eilish.’ I said, ‘What’s her deal?’ This is maybe like a year ago. I think she had released a bunch of songs or maybe EPs before but her LP, her album just came out not too long ago.

Going on to describe how he then ended up becoming friends with both Billie Eilish and her family, Dave Grohl noted that seeing her live was like something he had not witnessed for a very long time.

“When we went to go see Billie Eilish at The Wiltern, you felt like you were a part of something that was about to just explode,” Grohl noted. “It’s the connection she has with her audience.”

“She’s like Morrissey. It’s like the kids who are there at the show, and not just kids, the people that are there are just so into the scene. That world.”

While Josh Homme echoed that “something is starting” when it comes to Billie Eilish’s influence, there’s no saying just yet when we might end up seeing some sort of collaboration between the youngster and the Foo Fighters.
