It was a quarter of a century ago today that Melbourne’s The Empress Hotel hosted its first live gig. Since then, the historical live music venue has hosted around 17,000 gigs as an important venue for seasoned veterans and young bands first putting on their training wheels alike.
For 25 years, the site in North Fitzroy has survived the difficulties facing live music venues to provide a familiar location for local punters, music fans and the curious. Having hosted international acts like The White Stripes and Thee Oh Sees as much as home-grown icons like The Drones, Spencer P Jones and Augie March; the pub is putting together five very special gigs to celebrate.
So head on down and enjoy a pint with some good ol’ fashioned live music.
