Gerry Rafferty, best known for his insanely catchy and beautiful song ‘Baker St’ has died in Bournemouth, England, after a long battle with alcoholism. The Scottish singer was also a member of 70s soft rock band Stealer’s Wheel, who experienced a revival in the 1990s after Quentin Tarantino used their song ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ in the infamous ear slashing scene in Reservoir Dogs.
Born in Glasgow, Rafferty battled alcoholism for much of his adult life and had last released an album in 2000. His career also suffered at the hands of the music business as he endured any number of contractual disputes which impinged upon his ability to record and tour. However, ‘Baker Street’ was his financial rock, with the one song believed to be delivering him royalties of $125,000 per annum over 30 years after its release.
