The cat is truly out of the bag now. It appears that reports back in August that the original Black Sabbath lineup had reformed were indeed accurate with guitarist Tony Iommi revealing some more details in an interview.
It was Iommi himself who first sparked the rumour indadvertedly when speaking to a reporter off the record he said that the band had met up at a rehearsal studio for work on a live set and possible new album. Of course the reporter did not sit on the news and soon the whole world new of the news.
However Iommi was very quick to fire back at the reporter saying “Thanks to the internet it’s gone round the world as some sort of ‘official’ statement on my part, absolute nonsense.” There was still hope for fans though as Iommi’s statement was very carefully worded and did not actually deny that a reunion was on the cards.
Ozzy Osbourne reignited the story when he told Billboard a few weeks ago that “It’s in the very early stages, so we haven’t recorded anything yet. If it works out, it’ll work out.”
Now Iommi has opened up in an interview with Planet Rock saying “At the moment we’re in talks about it. But what’s going to happen with it, I don’t know. There’s no definite decision on anything at the moment, but at least it’s going. We’re talking, we’re all talking to each other. We’ve met up, had a play [rehearsal], and it was great.”
He continued, “We haven’t announced anything yet, because nothing’s definite. We’re taking it steady, because these things have a tendency to backfire. ‘Oh, you said you were getting back together, but you haven’t.’ So I don’t know. We’ll have to see. It would be nice to think we could, and I think we would all like to do it, but it’s a bit more involved than that.”
In the meantime both Iommi and Ozzy are busy selling their new memoirs. Iommi’s book, ‘Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven And Hell With Black Sabbath’ is already out in Europe and will be released in the US on November 1, whilst Ozzy’s book ‘Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy,’ came out a few weeks ago.
