Prepare to be taken on a totally psychedelic trip this Saturday morning as Australia’s laziest band King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard take a break from recording their 900th album to guest program none other than Rage on ABC.

Expect to be taken on a journey that will melt your brain and make you question reality itself, with the boys from Melbourne promising what is sure to be some of Rage’s most interesting programming ever.

“We’ve got a few different tracks coming up,” says the band in a RAGE promo video. “Neil Young, Tool, some Metallica, [Black] Sabbath, the Wurrumpi Band, we’ve got it all boys.”

King Gizzard have taken it pretty easy in 2015 so far. The band did scarcely a thing save for unveiling their sixth albumcompleting their own touring festival, playing overseas, long-awaited eighth record.

Indeed, since unveiling their debut album, 12 Bar Bruise, back in 2012, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have released a mere seven full-length studio albums. That averages out to a pretty dismal 2.3 albums per year.

The as-yet untitled album is apparently inspired by early heavy metal artists like Motorhead and Slayer, a big departure from the recently unveiled Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, the group’s seventh album, a folky, acoustic curveball that followed on from the high-concept Quarters!

“It’s not really metal, but it’s inspired by stuff like that,” singer Stu Mackenzie told the magazine. According to Mackenzie, King Gizzard have been working on a “super heavy” prog-metal album that will play out as an “infinite loop”, for the better part of a year.

“I’m sure no one’s going to put it on repeat and loop the album,” said Mackenzie. “The initial plan was to make the album we’re recording now [before Paper Mâché], but we realized the songs weren’t anywhere near ready,” said drummer Eric Moore.

King Gizzard’s guest programming will be aired on Saturday on 10.30am and Sunday 12.05am.
