If you’re a metalhead in need of a new axe, then you might want to hit up Reverb, where Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is selling 40 years’ worth of his gear.
When Dave Mustaine first formed Megadeth following his expulsion from Metallica, few knew that he had just given birth to one of the most iconic thrash metal bands of all time.
With a career than spans 36 years, Megadeth have managed to create some absolutely astounding music, even winning their first-ever Grammy for 2016’s Dystopia.
However, after so many years in the game, Mustaine has revealed he’s got a bit too much stuff in his storage shed, and plans to offload the gear he no longer wants to the fans that desire it more than anything.
“When you’ve been playing and touring for as long as I have, you tend to amass quite a collection of gear,” he explained. “They’re great instruments and they represent more than 40 years of playing, but I’ve got more than I could possibly use myself.
“I owe so much to my fans. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t even have all this gear. I’d rather give it back to them than let it sit and collect dust.”
Check out Dave Mustaine discussing his new gear store:
With The Official Dave Mustaine Reverb Shop opening on November 4th, there’s a massive amount of stuff available, with gear that goes back to the early days of the band which Mustaine says he wants to pass onto collectors and legacy fans of Megadeth.

“I have a lot, a lot, a lot of gear. I’ve got a lot of double-neck guitars, I’ve got a lot of prototype stuff. I’ve got absolutely killer collector’s item stuff for the right guy,” he added.
“For me, my job is to put everything I can into this guitar so that when it gets put into somebody else’s hands, I can say ‘This is the guitar that wrote ‘Holy Wars.’”
So what’s on offer? Well, fans will be able to grab 20 of Dave Mustaine’s signature guitars, including a 1987 Dean Dave Mustaine Signature Holy Grail V (#1 of 33), a Signature Zero Korina (#10 of 50), a 2007 Signature Silver V prototype, a Signature Silver Burst VMNT, and a Signature Stealth VMNT that was used extensively for touring.
There’s also Marshall amps (including one signed by Mustaine with his settings still marked), a drum machine, guitar pedals, a drum kit, a Shure Wireless Megadeth Transmitter System, plus acoustic guitars, multiple effects pedals, kick pedals and crash symbols, and more.
“When I die, I don’t want a guitar in my coffin,” Mustaine noted. “Some of these guys want to be buried with stuff — I don’t want to die. I want to live forever.”
In related news, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson offered an update on Dave Mustaine’s cancer battle recently, revealing that the iconic rocker has finished his treatments, and is now looking to the future while in recovery mode.
