Having boasted some of the world’s biggest names in music like AC/D, Abba and Neil Diamond, Moomba has made a name for itself as one of Australia’s greatest live music festivals  Add to its legacy that the lineups are still stellar and that the entire festival is free and it’s not hard to see why punters keep coming back to the weekend festival.

After an amazing lineup last year which featured Owl Eyes,The Paper Kites, Tex Perkins, Josh Pyke and The Panics it seems things are only getting better.

In 2013, the three stages at Moomba, which will take place at Alexandra Gardens on the Yarra River, will boast some of Melbourne and Australia’s biggest acts including Brisbane’s Ball Park Music, who are fresh from their national tour for which they received amazing praise on their live shows.

Along with the indie-rockers will be country music  chanteuse Kasey Chambers,  Hunters & Collectors frontman Mark Seymour, and the Glastonbury-playing Electric Empire and so many more.

Along with a full program of diverse music on the Cultural Quarter stage which includes energetic orchestral pop band Vaudeville Smash, fiery folk-jazz fusion Flap! and tropical reggae seven-piece Jaspora.

Moomba Program Director Ros Abercrombie said that the free music program has significant appeal to music lovers over the busy festival season.

“Last year we showed fans that you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy a full weekend of quality live music. This year we’ve put together a program of high calibre Australian acts across an even more diverse range of genres.

“Rather than building towards the headline acts, we arrange our program specifically so that Moomba goers can enjoy quality local and national music on any of our three stages, at any time of day.

“We will also be announcing our special opening and closing night concerts in early 2013 so I’d
recommend all music fans mark Moomba in their diaries for the Labour Day long weekend,” she
added.

Over the long Labour Day weekend 49 diverse acts will play across three stages.  Considering the varied lineup of up-and-coming and established artists, you’d better get down to the free concerts early to get a good spot.

The full lineup will be released in mid-February.
