Triple J’s weekly HOUSE PARTY stands tall as one of Australia’s most popular and long-standing alternative party radio shows, hosted by hottie Nina Las Vegas who spends her Saturday evenings mixing the best new tracks, old school jams and remixes from all over the world.
On top of her radio hosting duties Nina loves to get out of the studio and onto the road, which she currently doing as part of her Triple J House Party National tour to celebrate the release of House Party Vol 2 hitting the shelves with Flight Facilities, Tyler Touche, Cassian & Wave Racer.
Nina took some time out to tell us what her current favourite tracks are and why…
Wave Racer – ‘Rock U Tonite’
I smash this tune by Sydney producer Wave Racer. Like, seriously, HEAPS. One of our biggest Triple J tracks at the moment, I’m stupidly excited to have this guy on the House Party tour with me.
Dillon Francis – ‘Without You’
An emotive tune from Moombah bad boy, Dillon Francis, the addition of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs adds further feelings of heartbreak. There is nothing that I like more than a good club track, than a club track with beautiful lyrics.
Sampha – ‘Without’
I melt every time I listen to this track by vocalist and producer, Sampha. In fact, I melt listening to everything from the EP, Dual.
Lorde – ‘Royals’ (The Weeknd Remix)
Well isn’t Lorde the name on everyone’s lips? And boy, does she deserve it! ‘Royals’ was a slow burner for me (I’m more a ‘Tennis’ gal), however The Weeknd’s version is totally my vibe.
Drake ~ ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ Feat. Majid Jordan
Drake doing the house thing? Yes. I’m all for it!
A$AP Ferg – ‘Reynolds’ feat. Danny Brown
I think I’m more a Ferg girl these days (sorry Rocky), especially after his collaboration with Danny Brown hit Soundcloud. I like the old school beat work and basically anything that Danny works on, so yeah… SOLD.
Arctic Monkeys – ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High’?
Ok, I admit it. I become a ridiculous fangirl when it comes to Alex Turner slash Arctic Monkeys. After reading (and slightly lol-ing) about how the band were trying to embody RnB characteristics in their new music, I was pleasantly surprised that they kinda did via ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ And the clip? I’ve watched it a lot.
Rufus – ‘Desert Night’ (Motez Remix)
Want to know the best thing about an indie album like Rufus putting out music on a mostly dance label (Sweat It Out)? Their remix packages. Adelaide’s soon-to-be-massive Motez has put his touch on the Sydney band’s latest single, and it’s dope. Club and earphone suitable!
