Everyone’s favourite cheeky British pop singer has gone and pulled her own Snoop Lion. Don’t worry, she’s hasn’t Reincarnated herself as a reggae act, but instead says that she’ll now be the Artist Formerly Known As Lily Allen, with news that all future material will be released under the new recording name of Lily Rose Cooper.
Already the married name she uses on her twitter account, NineMSN reports that a statement last Thursday from publicist Ambrosia Healey says that all future material from the singer will be under the name Lily Rose Cooper.
Taking the name of her husband, Sam Cooper who wed the pop star and became the father of their children last year, Cooper surreptitiously announced her return to the world of music with news that she’s been back in the studio working on new material.
The news came from Cooper herself, who cheekily tweeted back to internet purveyors of pop, Popjustice, after they poked fun at Lily for her lengthy absence from the world of pop.
@popjustice you will be pleased to know that i am currently in the fucking studio with@gregkurstin so SHUT UP PETER !— lilyrosecooper (@lilyrosecooper) June 20, 2012
Greg Kurstin of course, being the producer Allen worked with for her world-beating sophomore album, It’s Not Me, It’s You from 2009.
Shortly after, Cooper made a surprise return to the stage, appearing with Professor Green during the Brit rapper’s support slot for The Stone Roses’ homecoming reunion shows in Machester ealy in Juy. It was an unannounced and unexpected comeback from the 27-year-old singer, and her first official live performance in almost two years. Her last being in September 2010, supporting Muse at Wembley Stadium, before turning to focus on her business pursuits and on raising a family with husband Sam Cooper.
Her publicist’s statement from Thursday states there’s no confirmed release dates for future material, with a previous tweet from Cooper saying that at this stage she was simply ‘feeling material out’: “I’m just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if anything stick… It’s no big deal really.”
It’s quite a big deal for her legions of fans, who have waited for a possible return to music since she announced in late 2009 that she’d be bowing out of the music industry.
One thing’s sure, as long as she maintains her sparky, cheeky appeal, a Rose (Cooper) by any other name would smell just as sweet.
