Fresh from announcing the dates and venues for Groovin The Moo 2014, festival organisers Cattleyard Promotions are set to expand their festival portfolio, revealing plans of new musical pastures in which to graze.

The Plot is a new dance and electronic music festival being launched by the Groovin The Moo team, which has today been unveiled through a Facebook page as The Music points out.

Details on the new music festival are scarce at this stage, but the social media page reveals a few key details are in place, describing The Plot as “an exciting new party in Sydney and Melbourne that will put the Tron in electronic and the dance in your pants.”

The timing and location are in stark opposition to Cattleyard Promotions’ flagship regional music festival, with The Plot set to take place in the lap of the summer festival season and smack bang in the middle of the Sydney and Melbourne CBD.

The Plot 2013 will take place at Big Top Luna Park in Sydney on 14th December and then in Melbourne the next day across multiple venues, namely The Palace Theatre and Ding Dong Lounge in the city centre on Sunday 15th December.

All other details about the festival are scant but the other big reveal is that Miami Horror seems to be the first act confirmed for The Plot 2013 lineup. The electro outfit recently unveiled a brand new single, ‘Real Slow’, taken from the band’s long-awaited follow-up to 2010 debut Illumination. ‘Real Slow’ is one of the first things that The Plot Facebook page has shared, while the band have returned the favour with a ‘like’, which puts the quartet in strong contention to be on the festival bill.

The full lineup is due to be announced on 9th October 2013, but considering that Miami Horror are Groovin The Moo alumni – appearing on the 2009 and 2010 lineups of the regional music festival – perhaps punters can turn to past Groovin The Moo bills to kickstart their lineup speculation.

Cattleyard Promotions’ expansion into the dance and electronic festival market comes shortly after Groovin The Moo’s expansion into South Australia, adding Oakbank Racecourse to its regional itinerary for the 2014 edition of the popular one-day event.

“It’s taken a few years, but we are all very excited to welcome South Australia into the GTM Family,” said Cattleyard Promotions’ Stephen Halpin of the announcement. “Oakbank Racecourse is a beautiful venue and the 2014 line-up is shaping up nicely already so we can’t wait to launch the GTM Tour in SA.”

The launch of the new dance and electronic festival comes at a time when the music festival market appears to be suffering some major losses. Just this morning came the news that Harvest 2013 is at the brink of being cancelled, while in the last two weeks we’ve seen Pyramid Rock fold on its 2013 edition, the Boomerang indigenous arts and music festival struggle, and the likely cancellation of Summadayze as messy liquidation proceedings await major Aussie promoters Future Entertainment Pty Ltd, along with McManus Entertainment and Fat As Butter promoters Mothership Music.

However Cattleyard Promotions, and Groovin The Moo have grown from strength to strength in the near-decade since it has launched. “In what is becoming an increasingly ruthless market, Groovin’ The Moo has managed to occupy an enviable niche,” as our Tone Deaf reviewer at this year’s Bendigo leg noted, as Groovin The Moo travelled the country for several sold out legs this year as thousands of punters flocked to see the lineup that included The Kooks, Flume, Tame Impala, The Temper Trap, They Might Be Giants, Frightened Rabbit, and plenty more.
