If you haven’t resided to the fact that all of the interests and personality that you have accrued on your 23 years on earth can be boiled down to the Spotify algorithm “Soccer Mommy Radio”, this is for you. A new online tool, Obscurify, is here. Its purpose? to analyse how obscure your music taste is.

The obscurity of your music taste is determined by the popularity of your favourite artists. The lower your score, the more obscure your taste. The higher the score, the more “mainstream” — or relatable. Let’s kill individualism.

For example, my music taste is more obscure than 58% of people, which sort of makes sense because I tend to consume, what we call in the trade, “Pitchfork 8.4 music.”

Obscurify also offers a break down of your top genres, but like in a super niche way that we’re not accustomed to. I don’t know what “post-teen pop” means but I welcome it with open arms.

There is also a mood section that categorises the music you listen to by the mood they invoke. The application also offers you music suggestions based off what you consume. If you were missing that sanctimonious friend that always made you feel garbage and uncultured, here is a worthy replacement. Head to Obscurify here for a piping hot serving of stats.
