Former Genesis front man Peter Gabriel has cancelled his upcoming Cup Weekend show in Melbourne after weak ticket sales or, as they say in the biz, ‘scheduling issues’. The odd middle of the road line up also features Daryl Braithwaite, Blue King Brown, Mrs Russel Crowe Danielle Spencer, with the tip that Beach Boys genius Brian Wilson is set to replace Gabriel.
This is the latest disaster to hit promoter and former Divinyls manager Andrew McManus after the disastrous Whitney Houston tour and cancelled New Kids on the Block reformation tour. It’s also going to make promoters very nervous, with a packed summer of festivals and tours in Australia and some of them are going to lose serious money.
