Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan has revealed that fans can expect an album sooner rather than later, following the release of single ‘Apocalyptical’ earlier this month.

Speaking with Revolver, the Tool and A Perfect Circle vocalist was asked if having to postpone tours as a result of COVID-19 resulted in the group’s plan to release an album, or if it was something that had always been in the works.

“Whenever we start getting on a roll with music with guitarist Mat Mitchell or any of the projects, I always like to look ahead and plan so I’m not over-promising,” Keenan replied.

“I’d rather over-deliver than over-promise. That’s always the better path. So we were penciling in 2021 because we’d be wrapping up with Tool and be able to get to work, but then things started getting strange,” he continued.

“Once there’s no touring, there’s no reason to not release the music sooner, so we’re pounding away at trying to get things done. It’s not done now, but it’s very close and we’re planning for a fall release.”

The news of Puscifer’s forthcoming release comes after Keenan opened up about tending to another fruit of his labour during his lockdown downtime – literally.

“Well, normally this is the road season, gearing up for harvest in July, August, September, October. So, this is the time that I would be out. If I’m going to be away from home, this is the perfect time,” he detailed.

“Unfortunately, actually, for the last seven years, I’ve missed a lot of things in my orchards, like apricots, come on. I just saw them today, they’re starting to come on. So, I usually miss the apricots, miss the plums, all the stuff that’s just coming on during this particular season. So, this is nice for me to be home, to be able to touch the things that I planted 15 years ago.”

Puscifer’s forthcoming album will be the first new material from the group since 2015’s Money Shot.
