Slipknot have reportedly parted ways with founding turntablist Sid Wilson, ending the 49-year-old’s 28-year run with the band.
The news broke via a brief statement posted to Slipknot’s official social media accounts today, per Rolling Stone via Stereogum.
It read: “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best with his future endeavours.”
No reason was given for the split, and the statement has since disappeared from the band’s channels, though fan accounts had already screenshotted and preserved it. Neither Wilson nor Slipknot have issued any further comment since.
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998 as the band’s turntablist and keyboardist. Outside the band, he’s also performed under the alias DJ Starscream since the 2000s, and appeared at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational just days before the announcement, still identifying himself as a member of Slipknot.
US outlets have reported that the decision had been brewing for some time. Sources close to the band told TMZ that Wilson was informed of his permanent removal in late July, and that the call was “a long time coming” rather than a sudden falling-out, with the band said to have “finally had enough” of his behaviour towards bandmates. Slipknot have not confirmed this account.
The news comes after percussionist Chris Fehn parted ways with the band in 2019 amid a payment dispute that spilled into litigation, sample and keyboard player Craig Jones departed in 2023, and drummer Jay Weinberg was let go the same year in what the band described as a “creative decision.”

The shake-up comes as Slipknot work on their eighth studio album, reportedly with producer Matt Wallace — known for his work with Faith No More and Maroon 5 — involved.
