A lot of strange sights occur at a festival, but someone acting like a waiter and grating cheese over the crowd has to be right up there.

The ludicrous incident occurred at Desert Daze in California last week during Viagra Boys’ set. As the Swedish punks energetically performed onstage, one fan near the front of the crowd was spotted grating cheese over other people’s heads. Seriously.

It might have been too good to be true if it hadn’t been for eagle-eyed photographer Oscar Moreno, who managed to snap a quick picture of the cheese-grating individual doing his thing.

After Stereogum editor Chris DeVille brought the hilarious incident to Twitter’s attention, Moreno chimed in. “Can confirm,” he simply wrote, sharing a picture of the cheese being grated.

There are just so many questions. So, so many questions. How did multiple crowd members react to having cheese sprinkled on their heads? What prompts someone to raid their kitchen for food and a grater before going to a festival? And, most importantly, what cheese did the perpetrator use?

As one Twitter user summed it up, “I need to know the full story behind why an audience member during the Viagra Boys’ set at Desert Daze broke out a block of cheese and started grating cheese on top of other people’s heads. I also look forward to any potential head cheese puns.”

At the time of writing, the cheesy assailant hasn’t been identified, but one hopes it’s only a matter of time. The music world needs answers.

Elsewhere during Desert Daze, Tame Impala marked the upcoming 10th anniversary of their seminal second album, Lonerism, by performing it in full. That meant album track ‘She Just Won’t Believe Me’ was performed for the first time ever, alongside rarities such as ‘Be Above It’ and ‘Music to Walk Home By’.
