Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable, who was sacked from the band in 2003 in circumstances that were less than amicable, was found dead in his Aberdare, Wales home at 5:30 this morning (June 7). South Wales Police have confirmed that a 40 year old man was found dead this morning and that while an autopsy would be conducted, there were believed to be no suspicious circumstances.
His 79 year old mother said “Stuart has travelled all over the world with the band and I have worried myself silly. He is now settled down and then this has happens. It has not sunk in yet.” In a statement to the media his brother Paul said “The family has no further comment to make at this stage. It is in the hands of the police.”
Cable’s sacking led to a bitter fall-out with lawyers being called in, then Cable claiming he had intended to quit, while front man Kelly Jones supposedly sent him an infamous letter dismissing him from the band. He said in a later interview of his departure from the band “I thought that was kind of the markings on the wall, y’know Kelly’s kind of power-driven madness.”
Cable went on to a successful career as a radio and TV host for the BBC and Kerrang.
