US musician T-Pain has taken to social media to issue a surprisingly honest message about the cancellation of his upcoming tour.

If you’ve ever bought tickets to a gig, you’d be well aware that one of the worst things that can happen as a fan is to receive that devastating news that the show has been cancelled. Sure, we know that things happen and bad news can’t be avoided, but for a fan, it’s a gut-punch to know you won’t get to see your favourite act live.

Often these cancelled shows will be paired with a reason for the need to cancel, which is usually met with either understanding or visible frustration from fans. However, US musician T-Pain has said he’s not having any of that, completely owning up to the mistakes that led up to the cancellation of his upcoming tour.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, the 34-year-old explained to his fans that his upcoming 1UP DLC Tour – which was supposed to kick off next week – has now been cancelled due to low ticket sales, something he takes full responsibility for.

“My team set up a tour in September and if you’ve ever set up a whole month-long tour before, you know that’s not enough time to set up a full tour,” he explained.

“Some corners got cut. Production went missing. I wasn’t as hands-on with the planning and things as I should have been because I’ve been busy as hell and I just thought since the first 1UP tour went well and sold out every city, this should be good.

“But having said that, I’m going to take it upon myself to cancel the 1UP DLC Tour, because it would’ve been a bad look for me and it wouldn’t have been entertaining to y’all.”

As he continued, T-Pain noted that he was “advised to lie” about the cancellation, noting that he was urged to explain it away by saying he needed time alone, time with family, or medical attention.

“‘Just don’t make it look liked we fucked up’,” he claims he was told, adding rather honestly, “We fucked up. I’m going to keep it real with y’all.”

“Most artists lie,” he explained. “Whenever concerts get cancelled or tours get cancelled, it’s for low ticket sales.

“It ain’t really about whatever the fuck reason they say. I think that’s wrong. That’s fucked up. Y’all out there spending y’all hard-earned money on these fuckin’ tickets.”

Adding that he’s aware of how devastating a cancellation can be, especially considering many fans choose to give tickets as gifts or plan big nights around the even, T-Pain conceded that he should’ve planned the whole tour much better than he did.

“I appreciate the tickets we did sell even though the ticket sales were very low, and they were low because we didn’t set it up right,” he concluded.

“We was rolling off momentum from the first tour and so we figured everything would be a breeze, and it was not.”

T-Pain was last in Australia back in 2018 for RNB Fridays Live. No word yet as to when he’ll be back, but you can be sure that if the tour gets cancelled, he’ll tell you the real reason.
